Bertels Kurt

Kurt Bertels (1989) graduated as a Master of Arts in the class of Norbert Nozy at the Royal Conservatory Brussels in 2012. Next to this he studied instrumental theory, composition, orchestration and harmony, and analysis.
 He followed masterclasses with Jean-Marie Londeix (FR), Lars Mlekush (AUS), Joseph Wytko (USA), Arno Bornkamp (NL), Jan Schulte- Bunert (DE), Naomi Sullivan (GB) and Vincent David (FR). He was laureate of Dexia Classics (2007), Princess Christina Concourse (2009), World Music Competition (2008), the Forte-audition (2011) and New Tenuto (2012). As a soloist he performed in Belgium and abroad. He is the founder of the Anemos Saxophone Quartet, the Kugoni Trio, Duo Bertels-Koch and a member of the Belgian Saxophone Ensemble.

He is preparing a PhD, under the supervision of professor Kristin Van den Buys and professor Katia Segers, on historically informed practice of the Belgian saxophone repertory between 1850-1960.
