Ruth Wauters (1989) graduated as a Master of Science in Geography, option urban geography, at the KULeuven and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2013. In her MSc dissertation, she investigated gentrification processes in the neighbourhood of Oud-Berchem (Antwerp) and their interaction with the neighbourhood’s function as an ‘arrival city’ for foreign immigrants. Since October 2013 she works as a doctoral researcher in the interdisciplinary project ‘Cities and Newcomers’, involving researchers from the departments of criminology, geography, history and sociology. Her research focuses on diachronic comparative research into modes of regulation in immigrant neighbourhoods in Brussels in the periods 1880-1914 and 1980-2015.
