Aristrocratic desserts

Aristocratic desserts of the 19th century.

Sofie Onghena

As of September 30th, the castle domain of Gaasbeek will host an exhibition on aristocratic desserts of the 19th century. The exhibition was prepared in cooperation with FOST.
The search for interesting objects (silverware, paintings, tablelinen, liveries, aprons) and documents (menus, wine lists, diaries, recipes, invoices) takes us to archives, museums, and private collections. Furthermore, trying to 'force an entrance' into castles that are still inhabited, turned out to be a true challenge. However, the memories of these lords and ladies might provide some necessary information.
The exhibition is a part of the 'Week of Taste' (November 16-19). This is a culinary event, organized by the VCV and commissioned by the Flemish government. On the castle domain of Gaasbeek, as well as others, people can participate in several 'culinary activities'.
