Gillaerts Sarah

 

Sarah Gillaerts works since November 2013 at the department of Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Free University Brussels) as a teaching assistant and since September 2014 as a PhD student. She holds a bachelor degree in Sinology (K.U.Leuven, 2010) and a master degree in Communication Studies (VUB, 2013). During her studies in Sinology, she developed a strong affinity with the Chinese culture, history and language, which are all crucial factors in cross-cultural communication with China. Thereafter, she studied Chinese language at the Liaoning Normal University in Dalian (2011), which allowed her to experience cultural differences at first hand. In her PhD research the focus is on intercultural communication processes in Chinese/Western-European joint ventures in Mainland China. In particularly, she is interested in how cultural barriers affect professional interaction in China.

Methodological expertise: mixed methods research – ethnographic research
