Van Den Cruyce Nele

Nele Van den Cruyce holds a master’s degree in sociology and a PhD degree in Social Sciences: Communication Studies (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, 2012). Her PhD thesis (Beyond Patronizing Representations? The healthy child in Flanders from 1950 until 2000 within the tension field of commercial and pedagogic information sources) focused on the representation of the notion of child health within a historical context, and was built on a quantitative and qualitative content analysis of advertising and other discourses in print magazines. 

She is currently working as Knowledge Manager at the Belgian Foundation against Cancer, developing a research department, which executes and manages research on the psychosocial and economic aspects of cancer.

Research fields: sociology of health and illness – media and representation – patient advocacy

Methodological expertise: quantitative and qualitative content analysis – quantitative surveys – in depth-interviews
